Who would have thought that thousands of people each month search the internet looking for advice and information about pursuing a master’s degree in English?
When I began writing about my process of earning a master’s degree in English in 2012, I had no idea those posts would gain the attention they did. Every single day, hundreds of people land on this website after Googling some variation of that phrase. And judging by the comments and emails I receive, it looks like my experience and advice is actually helping people.
After getting repeated requests, I compiled all the information related to the master’s degree in English into one linear and compact place. Then I wrote this book: Should I Get a Master’s Degree in English?, now published by Order of Education Press.
The book is 60 pages of experience, advice, and opinions about earning a master’s degree in English. Some of it has been published previously on Order of Education, and I went back through and edited everything, updating the information and expanding on points to make them more useful. Not to mention, the book is designed much more creatively and makes reading each chapter a more pleasurable experience.
About the Book
Should I Get a Master’s Degree in English? is divided into three main sections. The first two, Considering a Master’s Degree in English and Selected Essays on Graduate School in the Humanities, each contain four chapters, all of which are designed to give you both a specific focus on the English MA and also a broader understanding of humanities graduate school in general, as well as an awareness of some of the contemporary critical discussions about it.
The third section, Supplemental Materials, includes a “Checklist of 20 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Applying to a Graduate Program in English” and a page of Resources & Recommendations.
To these sections, I’ve also added an Introduction and a Conclusion, as well as personal contact information should you have any questions.
Thousands of people have already read the opinions and advice I offer in this book. This is partly due to my belief that the information should remain affordable to everyone who wants it. Even though I spent hours researching and compiling this book, I only ask for about what it costs me to produce it and get it to you.
I really just want to share my experiences with you in hopes that I can give you some of the knowledge I wish I had when I was in your shoes. You can get your copy for the price of a good cup of coffee. Can’t beat that. Also know that you’ll be helping a fellow humanities lover keep making art.
Just ask if you have any questions. Thanks and I hope you enjoy the book as much as everyone else has!
